The GEA Adventure Club is back in action this summer! We have scheduled a hike at the beautiful and historic Congaree National Park for Saturday, July 22, 2017.
We will hike the Weston Loop Trail (4.4 Miles). This trail provides great views of Cedar Creek where otters and wading birds are regularly observed.
Portions of the trail follow a cypress-tupelo slough (dried up river bed) where many cypress knees can be seen sticking up out of the water.
All who would like to attend, meet at the GEA Conference Center (adjacent to the Mullikin Law Firm) at 1308 Broad Street, Camden at 9:00 am on Saturday July 22.
We will have a quick safety and environmental presesentation and then carpool to Congaree National Park. A picnic lunch following the hike will be provided.

Following The Congaree Hike, we will once again ascend the 5.6 mile hike to the summit of Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River!

On July 18th, 2015, Global Eco Adventures sponsored the Kershaw County Recreation Department's "Yakking on the Wateree River".
Two Wateree River Kayaking Adventures are already planned for 2016 - Saturday, June 16 and Saturday, July 9.

The GEA Adventure Club program encompasses a curriculum for middle school aged adolescents that offers academic and applied knowledge of outdoor activities and inspires interest in the environment and as a result reshapes the priorities of the target population. Each 6-month program consists of hikes and activities at state and national parks in South Carolina to build awareness of the variety of activities and resources available at no cost for healthy recreation. The program builds confidence, knowledge, and physical strength and stamina each month toward the program goal of hiking to the highest summit on the east coast of the United States, Mt. Mitchell.

The Environmental Training Center is an educational community training forum that educates on protecting and responsibly developing our most valued environment -- America's wilderness.
The Environmental Training Center hosts events that allow the communities to learn about the local ecosystem, natural resources and sustainability practices while being immersed in the environment. These educational forums will focus on environmental training skills, current ecological awareness, and the environmental issues and challenges of the day.
A look back to the great American outdoors...
The birth of modern conservation movement in the United States began in the mid-19th century. As the country was experiencing the industrial revolution, which led to an influx in people developing and moving to cities to engage in the urban life, the sportsman were exploring the rural frontiers and were at the forefront of becoming aware of the profound impacts development was having on the county's wilderness and wildlife.
In the 1870s, hunters and anglers had formed more than 500 local associations and clubs with the goal of sustaining the wildlife. This class of sportsmen had an inherent appreciation for the value and beauty of nature and for the wildlife and it's habitat.
With leaders such as Charles Hallock and George Bird Grinnell, who used their magazine publications as an outlet to advocate for environmental protection legislation and later advocate for the enforcement of such legislation. President Theodore Roosevelt with the voice and advisement of Grinnell established five national parks, four game refuges, 51 national bird reservations, 150 forests and passed noteworthy conservation legislation. Roosevelt recognized that there must be a balance between the protection of our natural resources and the utilization of those resources for the benefit of our society.
As our society continues to grow and develop with innovative technologies and discovery of natural resources, these sportsmen's American values must be remembered.
Global Eco Adventures has partnered with the Kershaw County Library to help promote their "Book to Action" program. GEA and the Mullikin Law Firm donated space where the community garden, the hands-on portion of the program, has been established.

In an effort to ensure proposed new mining regulations in the Republic of Fiji offer a prudent, efficient, sustainable relationsip with nature, Tom Mullikin guided over fifty legal experts with backgrounds in environmental law, natural resource management, extractive industries, health and safety issues, land tenure, royalties and indigenous populations to provide a thorough legal analysis of the Republic of Fiji's Mineral (Exploration and Exploitation ) Bill 2006. The UNDP/Fiji voluntarily received the report and the proposed recommendations prepared in part by the team of experts specifically recruited for the analysis.
GEA visited a recent student who was interning with one of the premier shark scientists in the world. GEA is supportive of like-minded organizations such as the Bimini Shark Lab who's mission is to study and educate in the field of fragile environmental ecosystems.
Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation (BBFSF) Mission
Established & incorporated in 1990 by Dr. Samuel Gruber, today the Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation (BBFSF) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organisation located on the island of South Bimini, Bahamas. The mission of the BBFS Foundation is to advance our knowledge of the biology of marine animals especially the heavily impacted elasmobranch fish fauna (sharks and rays); to educate future scientists at undergraduate and graduate levels; and to disseminate our research results to advance the field of marine science and conservation biology, as well as raise public perception and awareness of sharks and other marine species.
